What are must "eat at" restaurants in Siena? We would like a nice dining experience. Good value for the money...a place to write home about...any suggestions??
It's been a few years since I was in Siena, but I really liked La Buca Di Porsenna (on a small side street one road back from Il Campo) and Ristorante Guido (near Il Campo). Both have web sites that you can use to get exact locations if they look good to you. Enjoy.
We enjoyed the tiny restaurant Taverna LaTellina. I think it was in RS guidebook. A reservation would be necessary-one seating for the evening.
<http://www.osteriadadivo.it/eng/chi-siamo.htm> It's not cheap, but it is a great experience. Try to get a table deep down in the space cut out of the rock. Wonderful people. Fabulous food. Be nice to them! They were nice to us.
We ate at the La Vecchia Taverna di Bacco. The Crema di Fungi soup was knee weakening. Who would have thought that just cream, butter, mushrooms and spices could taste like that! Handwritten menu on the chalkboard outside, almost all locals inside. Very inexpensive. Owner, an elderly gentleman, was very nice, and came out and hugged my wife. Being there in the winter, it wasn't crowded, and cozy warm. It's on Via Beccheria, #9. and man, was it hard to find. Down a little alcove, close to a pharmacy. Worth it.
i totally agree with matt. from the other washington. what great food and the atmosphere is crazy. really. we were waited on by the owner and chef and served by him and his wife. the kids were there at the end of service. best meal ever in siena, maybe the best ever in italy. we had the beef and it rocked. not cheap, but do you really care? have fun, be safe.
