Hello
What is the number of the bus that goes to the old town from the train station?
Thaks
Where are you arriving from? The staff at the station should be able to point out the appropriate Bus. I'd suggest taking a Taxi as it will be quicker and easier.
you're right i may be over thinking my plan;
thanks
If you are coming from florence, take the bus which takes you right to the heart of the walled city. I thought there were escalators for going up the hill towards the center from the train station -- but haven't used them as we always either drive or take the bus depending on where we are coming from.
Any bus number takes you up to the city center. They all go there. Just make sure you take the one going to the right direction.
We're day tripping on Trenitalia to Siena via Chianciano Terme from Orvieto this New years Day. (by the way the Umbria Winter Jazz Fest is this month December 29-January 1). I am traveling with someone that works in a sedentary job in a small town flat land like Chicago Janet that drives everywhere who complains about walking anywhere and tight with cash when it comes to taxis. This is why I was researching and probably over thinking the bus options.
There is a big bus terminal near the train station, if there is no staff in on the holiday, just ask anyone waiting for a bus, or the driver when one pulls up. Routes sometimes change slightly on holidays, but any bus going to Piazza Gramsci will do.
Siena is very hilly, your friend should be aware of that in advance.
Enjoy your trip!
If your friend is tight with cash (and both of you pack light) take the public escalators. There is also a youtube video showing them.
