Siena in October

We will be in Siena for a couple days in October. I have been in communication with my inn. They are very helpful, but there's a language barrier, mostly on my part. Their English is much better than my Italian, but this one I'm not clear on. I had asked if they knew if the floor in the Siena cathedral would still be uncovered for my stay, and it turns out to be just barely! Lucky us! But, then she recommends to visit, "la città del cielo" I've done some searching on BING, and it seems to mean city of Heaven but I don't see any site with this name. Could they be talking about the Torre del Mangia (City Tower). But that seems to translate to Tower of Eating?

Off the top of my head, I think this refers to the walkway/viewpoint on the top of the wall which would have been part of the largest church in the world, had it been completed. (The plague decimated the local workforce, and it was never finished) You can get a combined ticket for the Cathedral, museum, baptistery etc - it worked out about €10 last time I bought one.

Part of that ticket gives access to the cathedral museum and from there up to the top of the wall where there is a spectacular panorama of the city. It is a much easier climb (not too many stairs) than the Torre del Mangia, and the view is probably as good.

Even if parts of the floor are covered, Siena remains one of my favourite cathedrals anywhere.

Thanks Tim and lnbsig, it sounds promising especially since we wanted to do some kind of climb for a view. We had been thinking of the Torre del Mangia but this sounds better, I think it might be closed when we are there but certainly will keep it in mind.
