Siena - Duomo Opa Si Pass or Gate of Heaven?

Hi, We only have one day/night in Siena and will be traveling from Florence by bus the Friday morning we arrive. We want to see the Duomo. Is it best to buy the Gate of Heaven tour to go up to the roof or the Opa Si Pass or just show up and buy tickets to go in and see it? I am confused and keep reading conflicting information on forums depending on what year the question was asked. What is the best advice for seeing the Duomo this year and how much time is needed to see the highlights? Thanks!

Was there this past September and did the Gate of Heaven tour. I had 7 other people with me. It was nice to see the upper part of the church and some of the tools used to build it.

I enjoyed this more then in the past going to the top of the unfinished arch for what would have been the newer church that you access via the Duomo Museum.

The one note is you don't really get a guide on the Gate of Heaven tour, more of an escort to open the locked doors. They didn't know much about the church but knew a few of the questions we asked. They do give you a little piece of paper to read. Afterwards we used Rick's Guide for the inside of the church, as the tour is only the upper level.
