Quick Questions (explained below): Can someone please help me? I know that I can just show up and buy tickets outside the duomo, but can anyone confirm what their latest entry time is? Separately, does anyone know if it's possible to get tickets to the Gate of Heaven tour for any later than 4:00-4:30pm entry? Yes, I've already looked at the booking website :)
A friend and I are leaving in one week to Italy for the first time. One of the places I really wanted to see was the Siena Duomo, as well as take the trip to the top of the church in their Gates of Heaven 30 minute tour. Our trains are already scheduled to be arriving in Siena at 4:38pm (16:38) and we are only there for 3 hours to just do the two items above.
I booked our train tickets at that time because their website says they close at 7:00 and the last entrance time is a half hour before - both for the general entry into the duomo as well as for the Gates of Heaven tour. However - on the ticketing website that they direct to, their last "reservation" time that they offer is 4:00pm to 4:30pm.
I emailed the duomo and asked why that is, since their website states the last entry is 30 minutes before. The response I received back is: "Because you need 1 hour and half to complete your visit." Hmmm...
So I replied with: "Wouldn't that mean that the last reservation window is at 5:30pm then, since that is still an hour and a half before closing?" And the response was: "Yes of course! Closing time is at 7:00pm!".
(Sigh). I don't get it.
