Siena Duoma, Porta del Cielo and misc. Siena

We will be in Siena two nights in October. We were very lucky that the Duomo marble floors will be uncovered during our stay. They cover them the day we leave! There are many options for Duomo tickets. Yikes. I think we've settled on the Opa Si Pass + Porta del Cielo. Anyone done the dome's cupola and the roof? Do those tickets need to be purchased well in advance? How tight are those spaces? I'm Claustrophobic, but can usually manage with some knowledge of what I'm in for and some mental prep.

And as long as we're talking Siena, any favorite viewpoints, restaurants or hot tips?

Thanks

What perfect timing to see the floors! We were in Siena in July 2017 and purchased our Duomo tickets when we arrived (the same selection you are considering). The Duomo was busy, but not so much that we felt crowded. I don't recall the climb being terribly "close" or claustrophobic; perhaps there is an online video that you could watch to help you prepare. The Gates of Heaven tour was very interesting. We also visited the recently rediscovered "crypt" area and had it to ourselves (with the exception of a staff member, who gave us a mini-tour).

We had a leisurely lunch at one of the restaurants on Piazza del Campo. We enjoyed the food and the atmosphere!
