I am in Siena right now and I know where the bus stop is in Siena, I just don't know where to buy bus tickets. Also, I know I would need to take a taxi to the train station in Siena, would the train be a better choice? Thanks in advance.
Christine
Christine, Travel by train will probably be a better option on that route. If you go by Bus you'll arrive at Tiburtina station, and will have to reach Termini via Metro or Taxi. If you travel by train you'll arrive at Termini, which might make it a bit easier to get to your hotel. I've used Taxi from Siena to the station and as I recall its not that expensive. If you decide to use a Taxi, I'd suggest asking your hotel to pre-book that for you the day prior to travel. If cost is a big issue, I believe there's a Bus that also goes to the station. Happy travels!

The bus and train to Rome both take about over 3H. If you take the train, you need to change train in Chiusi. If you close to train station in Siena. Maybe be you should take the train. The taxi fares are expensive. I can not remember where I brought the bus ticket. I think you can buy it from the bus station.(Piazza Gramsci) Have a good trip.
I haven't taken the train but bus is not bad. Just head down to the bus station in the morning you can buy ticket on the spot. I have done this trip twice by bus it's never crowded.
Hi Christine, The bus station is at Piazza Gramsci. To buy tickets to Rome, you go to the Sena ticket office under the bus "station" area. Just look for the stairs leading below ground by the NH Excelsior hotel. I have made the trip many times, and always take the bus. It's true you will arrive in Tibertina bus station in Rome. But walk across the street to the train station and take the metro (well marked to Termini, or to the stop closest to where you are going) Termini station is four stops away.
There is also a bus operated by the train system (Trenitalia) that leaves from the Siena train station - you buy the ticket and validate it inside the train station, just like a train ticket. I would confirm that this route is not just a summer one, however. Personally, I prefer the train from Siena to Rome for comfort and travel time/options.
