Siena Accommodations

I've perused the Grafitti Wall and would like a few more options to investigate regarding recommended accommodations in Siena. No hostels though. Apts, B & B's, or small hotels preferred.

Thank you for any information you'd care to share.

We stayed at Palazzo Masi, a small B & B (breakfast is actually optional and we chose to eat at local bars) and loved it. It is steps from Il Campo, only 5 minutes from the Duomo, several great restaurants close by, and Daniela offerd up the warmest greeting when we arrived. Huge smile, all sorts of maps and restaurant recommendations. We truly loved it and would highly recommend it. http://www.palazzomasi.it/

We loved the breathtaking views from our little iron balconies at the Rick Steves recommended Alma Domus. When we stayed there it cost something like 60 EUR, a fabulous deal for a double with bath.

Claudia, I stayed at Albergo Bernini, and would recommend them highly! It's a family-operated B&B, located in a very convenient area. The breakfasts are great, and the rooms very comfortable. I really enjoyed sitting on the breakfast patio in the sunshine, as the view was awesome! Nice to visit with the other guests too, as they often had good tips for sightseeing.

Albergo Bernini is the Siena lodging shown on some of Rick's (older) TV programs, with Mauro playing the accordion for guests.

They used to require a personal cheque or money order for deposit (no credit cards), but not sure if that's still the case. In any case, I found the reservation process was very easy.

Cheers!

We just got back and stayed in Alma Domus. 95E for a clean quad room. Probably the best views of Siena.

Claudia,

We've done both Hotel Bernini and Alma Domus, recommended by Rick, and had GREAT experiences. The breakfast from the balcony at Hotel Bernini is a delight! For us, both we paid cash and they were in the 65-85 Euro range based on the rooms we utilized.

For a different experience, we've stayed at a few other hotels in Siena. The most surprising was Borgo Grondaie at Via Delle Grondaie 15. The location is off the beaten path - it's actually across the tracks and up BEHIND the train station. But it sits on a hill looking at Siena and had an incredible pool!!!! We just hiked down the hill, past the Coop supermarket, and hopped the bus into town!

Siena is a wonderful town; I'm sure you'll get many other recommendations!

Ciao,
Ron

It was one of the few places we could find that fit our budget and had air. If you are going after us I can tell you how it is.

We stayed in one of Rick's recommendations, Hotel Etruria. They had A/C and a great location--a very short block to the main piazza. It was also a short walk to the bus station.

Rooms were clean but not beautiful. We didn't care since all we did was sleep and clean up there. They did have a nice sitting area and a dining room table you could use. We didn't spend any time there either. It's much nicer to sit at a table in the piazza!

We just returned and stayed two nights at Il Chiostro del Carmine. It was a lovely room with a stunning view and we were pleased with the breakfast, etc. We did not have a great map for the location when we got to town, and ended walking a LONG way from the bus to hotel. Leaving town we got a taxi and it was 12 euro to the train station, well worth it.

Glad to here that. We're booked at the Etruria for 3 nights next June. I think it will be fun to spend 3 nights in the heart of Siena. The hotel does have a 1 a.m. curfew but we're past the age where that will be a problem!
