Hi
My wife and I are planning to spend three nights in Siena this October(2025). Looking for suggestions with hotels. Also, we're planning on renting a car so maybe hotels with parking.
Thank you in advance for your help.
The center of Siena is a ZTL...ie; no car zone. We found a garage to park our car for a few days & the owner ferried us in to our B&B/hotel. It was a wild ride. At one point he said....close your eyes & laughed. We were headed to a brick wall at speed.....before he made a left & a right in short order. We stayed at LeAquile B&B. It was great & the host was very nice. steps away from the Square.
Hi,
We enjoyed staying just outside the city walls at Hotel Palazzo di Valli with onsite parking in 2021.
In May we are staying at Palazzo Ravizza in Siena. Private parking is possible on site for 10 euro per day. They will send you a map and instructions on how to reach the hotel and where parking is located. They do say "Please drive to the hotel first, where we'll do for you the access permission for Limited Traffic Area. After the check in, we will explain to you where to park the car."
Someone on this forum recommended this hotel to me.
We stayed at Palazzo Ravizza
Next door is Hotel Athena which also offers parking
Both share the same fantastic view
Hi
Thank you everyone for the suggestions. One more question; I read it's better to rent a car at Siena. Has anyone here done this?
Please advise. Thank you
Siena has a few car agencies near the train station. The only issue you may have is availability- especially if you need automatic, and open/close hours.
Where are you coming from?
Lots of people pick up car in Florence. Not a big deal.
We always use AutoEurope.com. See what they offer. Excellent service, usually best rates as well.
All drivers must have an IDP.
Be sure to read up on driving in Italy.
As mentioned above, we have used Auto Europe and usually end up renting from Europcar. It is not near the train station but only a short taxi ride from the center. We have always had a good experience with them. If you have not driven in Italy before follow Christine advice about reading up on driving and have an IDP. I have found the experience enjoyable, but maybe not so much for the passengers.
It’s much easier to park near the train station and then walk into the center of Siena. It’s less than a ten minute walk. I’d never think about even bringing a car into Siena
And there are escalators that take you most of the way up the hill, with a quick and interesting walk from there to the city gate, then an even more interesting walk to the center of town.
Hi. Thank you everyone for your suggestions. ChristineH, we'll be taking the bus in Florence to Siena. Then, rent a car there. This will be just our second time in Italy, so we're excited and a little scared at the same time.
Thank you
