siena

looking for a place for 3 nights - have a car (i know, a pain in siena); so will have to park "outside". we want to be able to "walk" from our hotel in the morning/evening for coffee or wine :) we are 'walkers', so don't mind a 10-15 minute walk in the morning to get our coffee:) our 'travel agent' keeps sending us 30 miles from Siena. but we also want "action" -- a town with people ! these little places outside of siena look very, very pretty, but very few restaurants, bars, etc. we are 60/65, but still like to be around "people" :) thanks for any info

Hotel Minerva, just outside one of the gates, garage parking, very nice hotel (some rooms have views of Siena skyline). Very easy walk into town and easy to day trip in the area.

We stayed at Hotel Porta Romana just outside Siena, and we loved it! It is just perfect. It is just off a road outside of town and very easy (15 minutes) to walk back into town. Once you are on the property you don't even know you are near Siena. A wonderful terrace overlooks sloping hills with olive trees. The rooms are large and comfortable. The breakfast is served in a beautiful garden! The staff is very friendly and helpful.
