I have booked a Rich Steves tour that begins in Rome in May 2025. I am getting to Rome three days early and would like to book a day trip tour that does Pompeii and the Amalfi Coast. Does anyone have any recommendations for a day tour there?
Years ago, RS recommended Mondo Guides. At the time, a guide would pick up a small group of 10 unrelated tourists in Sorrento to take them along the Amalfi Coast, stopping at various towns. I don't know if that is offered anymore, but a quick perusal of their website shows that they offer transfers and tour services.
Because of the distances involved it is hard to do Pompeii and the Amalfi coast in one day from Rome. I would do one or the other. And to get a good understanding of Pompeii you should spend some time at the museum in Naples. All of the recovered items from Pompeii are on display in Naples. A half day at both is not unreasonable.
Or even better, fly into Rome and go straight to the coast (Sorrento would work for this if you needed easier access to both) do Pompeii (and the archaeological museum) one day and a tour from Sorrento to the coast the other day, then come back up to Rome the night before the tour and enjoy!
Can you fly into Naples?
Then head to Rome the night before your RS tour starts?
Trying to do both on a day trip from Rome is not impossible it’s just a lot and can become a brutal day
Mondo Guides wonderful but their AC tour leaves from Sorrento so you’d have to be there night before the tour

This question does come up frequently
Scroll thru the forum to find those threads or do a search here for something like “Pompeii from Rome”
If you want a guided tour from Rome look for one that utilizes the fast train to Naples , rather than the all day bus from Rome to AC and back ( that’s way too much time spent in transit)
It is hard to do both Pompeii and the Amalfi Coast.
I recommend staying overnight in Sorrento and spend two days there.

We did this from Rome several years ago with 7 kids. It was a long day, but completely doable and so fun. Our kids all loved it. I can't remember the tour we used - I'll go back and look in my records. Just wanted to say if you want to do it in a day, it's completely possible.
We booked a day trip from Rome to Pompeii with a stop in Positiano through LivTours. They pick you up at your hotel, drive you down, have your guide waiting, etc. Haven't gone yest (later this summer), but have heard great things about the company and they have been wonderful to work with. Friends have used them and love. We have a group of 6 (their max capacity) so our tour will be private.
