look in Ricks book; he lists towns in the region. One I liked was Padua (Padova).

Venice is so beautiful you might just want to explore it. But, that said, RS does have a good section in his Venice book on daytrips. We did the day-long island hop that he recommends and really enjoyed it. It takes you to San Michele (the cemetery island), Murano, Burano and Torcello.
Verona is another common daytrip from Venice.

yes i'll have 3 days in venice to explore all the back walkways nooks and crannies but want to take then also a day or two to get out into the veneto area...thanks
