never been to sicily, so i can't help you there, but if you haven't booked your flight to sicily yet, i have a friend who has booked several dirt-cheap flights between sicily and the italian mainland on windjet.

We just returned from the RS Sicily tour. While in Palermo we stayed at the Hotel Posta. It was very nice, clean and close to most things. Most of the staff spoke English.

I can recommend two on Via Roma. Hotel della Palme, pricey but very nice with history. Short walk to Teatros Massimo and Politeama. About 150 euro a night for a single. Hotel Italia,near the train station,bare bones budget place but clean. A little noisy, I paid 30 euro a night for a single. Short walks to most of the major sights. If you want, PM me and I can give you some sightseeing tips for Palermo. Been there several times now and I think I've made most of the mistakes possible....someone should benefit from 'em!

Karen, we stayed in a convent booked thru monasterystays.com and were quite pleased. It was VERY reasonable, VERY clean, VERY safe and close to centro storico, the markets, and the waterfront.
