My family recently completed an unguided trip of Sicily. I wanted to hire a guide to get the most out of our time in Palermo. When I contacted Jackie Alio (mentioned in 2019 RS Sicily guidebook) she said she was not available - but her friend and co-author (Sicilian Food and Wine: The Cognoscente's Guide) might be available. We were so lucky to match up with Francesca. After meeting us at our hotel she drove us to Monreale in her Land Rover. We were impressed by her explanation of the mosaics in the church (we have also toured Aya Sophia in Istanbul and churches in Ravenna). After returning to Palermo, Francesca gave us an orientation tour of the city, markets and Churches. We also enjoyed a "back door" lunch at a Tavola Calda that was delicious. Francesa is witty and charming. And she knows her history. She loves Sicily and the culture. We feel so fortunate to have made her acquaintance. Rick and Sarah - how did you leave Francesca out of your guidebook to Sicily? You can reach Francesca Lombardo at [email protected] or +393384812795. So happy to read this review -- we are booked for a day and a half with Francesco for our trip in October!! She has been lovely to deal with via email, so I am not surprised to learn that she is the same in person.
We will spend a morning with her in Palermo on one day, and the next day visit Monreale and either Erice or Segesta.
Francesca is a crowd pleaser. My wife and I are in our 60s. Three adult daughters 30s and 20s. Everybody had a good time. Earlier in the week our friends (2 adults from USA and 2 adults from Norway) booked a tour and they raved about her. Her book is worth ordering (I used Amazon). We referred back to it many times during our trip. Tim
Excellent information and referral, timenglish! I love Sicily and hope to return sometime very soon!
