Sicily - Trapani - Private Guide Salt Flats

We are planning a trip to Sicily and are looking for a Private Guide for the Trapani region that would include a visit/tour to the Salt Flats. Looking for any recommendations.

Can’t recommend a guide since I had a rental car, but in my opinion, the Marsala salt pans were better than the ones at Trapani. Unless visiting the museum, neither takes that long to see. Both are in somewhat remote locations, but not far from town. Heading towards the Marsalai salt pans is an old WWII bunker.

The new RS Sicily guide will (supposedly) be in print sometime this April. If your trip is later in the year, perhaps there will be recommendations for personal guides out of Trapani in the book.

No guide to recommend but we visited the salt pans near Trapani on our own then went out to the fascinating island of Mozia. You can walk all the way around it and there is an interesting museum. Thousands of years of history there!

For Douglas ... and for me! ... is there any way to get to the Salt Pans of Trapani, or of Marsala, using public transportation from Trapani? If not, would a taxi be very expensive? Thanks, Laurel, and anyone else!

You’d have to check, but I doubt there is public transport to either of the salt pans. Each is down a not so terribly wide dirt road and not near any town or other buildings. My guess is you’d need to take a tour or taxi. From downtown Trapani to the Trapani salt museum (museo dei sale) and farm is about 6 miles. The Marsala salt pans (Salina Marsala stagone) are about 20 miles from Trapani. My wife and I did not go into the museums, rather, just walked around.
