Sicily to Venice By Train or By Flight

Planning a RS Tour of Sicily. However, at tour’s end need to get from Sicily to Venice within 1 and 1/2 day. Any firm recommendation for rail or flight? TY for any help here.

I always prefer trains over planes, but that's a flight for sure.
I'm seeing 16-18 hours by train.

Blane, if time is an issue, you might consider a non-stop flight on Ryanair or Wizz Air. The flight is less than 2 hours from Catania. We've flown from Catania to Rome in the past with Alitalia. Edited to add: Alitalia does have flights from Catania to Venice as mentioned on this thread.

Possibly a 1 hour and 45 minute flight from Palermo vs. Possibly a train ticket the requires you to change trains a 2 or 3 times over 16 hours = Flight

I love train travel in Italy, but in Sicily its easier by bus- with that being said I would fly from either Palermo or Catania to Venice. Try Easy Jet .

Fly. We flew Alitalia to Venice several years ago, leaving early in the morning from the hotel in Catania following the last day of the tour. Not sure if Alitalia is still flying that route, but we specifically chose the only nonstop flight, as all others stopped in Rome.

given your requirements the plane's the answer for you

Definitely fly. I made this trip in 2018. At the time, there were few, if any non-stop flights from Palermo to Venice. We took a flight from Palermo to Rome, then a separate flight from Rome to Venice.

Thank you all for the rapid response to my query! Sounds like a “no brainer” for flying direct or with a transfer, compared to train, given the time frame.

Timing for our Sicily trip is Spring 2022. Cindi and I have the planning bug. We are so ready to travel! Maybe you are getting ready to scratch that itch too.

Stay healthy. Safe travels!

I have taken trains all over Italy and loved the scenery. But for your itinerary, I'm going to agree with everyone else and suggest flying. I believe the tour ends nearer to Catania than Palermo so look for flights out of Catania. For next year it's too early to see good schedules.

I'm was in Rutland a couple of weeks ago.
