Sicily, then what?!

Greetings!

We are traveling for a week to Sicily in Taormina for a week in March. We want to extend our stay a week but there are so many good choices of what to do and where to go! Any good ideas/suggestions as to best way to extend our travel staying somewhat south would be greatly appreciated! (Sans Rome, Tuscany, Umbria or elsewhere more north; we've been there!)

Thanks much, fellow travelers!

Definitely more Sicily. Taormina is beautiful but very touristy and full of boutiques. I know some people like it, but I was happy to leave after a few hours. I found everywhere else I went more interesting.

Check out Ortygia (the medieval section of Siracusa), the Baroque villages nearby, Palermo (with side trips to Cefalu and Monreale), Trapani/Erice, the Villa Romana del Casale and the key Greek sites at Agrigento, Segesta and Selinunte. There is much more.

Rick has a guidebook dedicated to Sicily now.
