Hello everyone. We are due to leave on our Italy trip in 2 weeks and have plans to go to Sicily for a week. I just learned today that Sicily has declared a state of emergency due to drought and are rationing water in many places. Am I right to be rethinking our plans at this point?
You will probably be served bottled water, asked to limit your showers, and you know how to handle the toilet. If you want to see Sicily, go. The situation is not going to change. Catalonia, including Barcelona, and the French border area also have extreme drought.
Thank you for your reply Bets. We definitely want to see Sicily. We'll just have to be smart about water use.
No need to cancel your trip. The biggest inconvenience could be that you can't have a shower exactly when you want. But that can sometimes happen in Sicily anyway. Hotels usually have reserve tanks anyway.
