Sicily September 2025/Other travel companies, besides RS (we are on the waiting list)

Hello Fellow travelers: Since we will be in London in late August, we decided last minute to see if we could get on a RS tour to Sicily. While on the waiting list we thought it be best to come up with a PLAN B. Anyone have any recommendations of other travel companies that would be as nice as Mr. Steves' operation?

thank you!

Plan B would be not to go to Sicily in August. It is deathly hot. Maybe England or Ireland?

While I've not done a Road Scholar trip to Sicily (nor have I done Rick's) they do have some departures in September. The earlier departure, Sept 14 looks to be full but the Sept 21 departure has openings.

I find the companies pretty comparable and have done 13 with Road Scholar and 12 with Rick. Both include all tips. Both have an educational focus although Road Scholar emphasizes this more than Rick does. Rick's tours have fewer meals but if I'm not hungry I'll just skip some of the Road Scholar meals.

Alan is absolutely right. If you will be in London in August, then take the train to Edinburgh or fly to Dublin and enjoy cool Scotland or Ireland. Avoid Sicily in August.

In their 2024 catalogue, Odyssey’s Unlimited shows departure for Sicily Aug 25th and Aug 29th - I couldn’t find my 2025 catalogue but I’d guess the dates are similar. Friends we made on an RS tour took this tour and were very happy. We did a Spain tour with them and were happy. They do small groups, and price is lower if you just do land only.

I don't believe that there is a Rick Steves tour to Sicily in August, but it looks to me like the early September one still has spots, is that what you were looking at? After you do England in late August? I guess for something a little different you could do Southern Italy which starts on August 30th.

Agree with @davebarnes. Head to Sicily on your own…very doable and absolutely wonderful!
