Greetings! We are headed to Sicily the last 2 weeks of November and are planning to spend 2-3 nights in Palermo to start. Since it’s the off season we were hoping to travel by car with a loose itinerary and no set accommodations outside of Palermo. Thoughts on this approach?

My guess is you should be fine. If you have a rough itinerary you can always research hotels before the trip. Once there you can reserve a couple days before getting to that place.

Hello,
You don't need a car in Palermo, so I would suggest you renting the car when you are ready to leave as there are issues with parking, ZTL's, and driving in the City. It is easy to get around the city by bus and walking. As far as accommodations along the way, my in-laws travelled all around Sicily in Nov and December and there were still tourists, but it was less crowded at that time. Definitely travel to Trapani and Erice if you can, Agrigento and Siracusa/Ortigia.
