Is there a bridge out on A19 or A18 that makes that road not good to drive on going across Sicily.

What bridge are you talking about?
A18 and A19 are both 4 lane divided freeways (the first Palermo-Messina, the latter Palermo-Catania). Why shouldn't they be good to drive on? They are Sicily's most important arteries.
