Sicily Rail Travel/Tickets

We are flying into Catania and out of Palermo and will be doing a lot of rail travel for 7 days. It's not real intuitive to me which is the best ticket option. I see a 5 day "travel as much as you want" but it only covers Regionale and Trenitalia Tper trains. I like the idea of not having to continuously buy point to point tickets even if it save me a few euros. But if I'm reading things correctly that 5 day ticket may not cover a faster train from Catania to Sicily which we will do, in addition to day trips out of both of those cities. Can anyone clarify this for me? Thank you.

First, to clarify, Catania is a city IN Sicily. The whole island is Sicily. Perhaps you meant to ask about a train from Catania to Siracusa?

I can't help with your ticket question, but the train system in Sicily is not always the fastest way. From Catania to Palermo, I believe it is much faster to take the bus, which is very comfortable and efficient.

Thank you. Something to consider. However, I keep reading how the views on the train are worth the ride alone. But I will look into busses also.
