We are starting to plan a trip to Sicily and the Aeolean Islands . Figured we would start off in Palermo. Any recommendations as far as hotels and transportation options around Palermo and then to the islands (after driving around Sicily)? The last time we were there was over 15 yrs ago and driving in Palermo was a horror, and we were much younger then. Anyone find any good tour guide books to assist in planning? Thanks Don

Here is a site I used to find all about Sicly. I was on a RS tour several years ago. There is a ton of info on this site and many links. Palermo - I stayed in Hotel Posta. Wonderful location. Sicily Link

Driving in Palermo hasn't gotten any better! Most of the major sites are within walking distance of each other in Palermo but there are the City Sightseeing tourist buses to help get around as well as the public bus system. you may want to check out the Hotel della Palme on Via Roma. Close to Teatro Politieama and Massimo. The site the previous poster referred you to is a good one. I used to just print up pages from that site to use as my guide book and toss them as I went.
