Any suggestions on where to stay near Piazza Armerina, Rick's tours stops at Agriturismo near by, but no details where? And he does not have a book on Sicily, yet!! I could use one.
Richard, Lonely Planet has a book dedicated to Sicily, whilst Insight Guides has Southern Italy. I forget where I stayed near Piazza Armina, but it was not in that town, but not too far. Enjoy Sicily.
Richard, checking my travel diary, I see that I stayed at Hotel Pomara, San Michele di Ganzaria. I thoroughly enjoyed the meal, and still use some the recipes obtained there. The ceramics town of Caltagirone is well worth a visit,(and very close by) especially the steps joining the upper and lower towns.
Piazza Armerina has several great accommodations like La Casa Sulla Collina D'oro or Suite d'Autore. Villa Romana will be closed from November 3, 2008 to February 28, 2009.

Giorgio himself is really the attraction when you stay at his "house". As he says "Entertainment is absolutely FREE. You can choose to have fun with us or stay by yourself". He told us what his plans were for the next day and gave us the option to come or not. We had a car so we only took him up on a night time walking tour which was Great! He stopped at a purely local restaurant after the tour and when we tried to pick-up his tab he would not let us.

Opps, nevermind. Got my wires crossed. The above recommendation is for Palermo.
