Sicily - More Beach in June Questions

Would either Catania, Palermo or Syracuse have a public free beach that won't be packed the first two weeks of June? What about the beaches in Cefalu? I'd like to be able to walk to coffee, restaurants, etc as well as a beach if possible. We will have a lot of time on the island but would like to spend some time near a beach for our 10 year old granddaughter's first week or so of her first trip to Italy. Any ideas?

There are beaches at all those locations, and in early June they won’t be packed. There might be more people on weekends.
In Palermo there is probably the best beach, in the Mondello district.
In Cefalù there is a nice beach also.
In Syracuse I don’t remember beaches in town, but a great one I saw is at nearby Fontane Bianche, a town I think you can easily reach by train, if you are not renting a car.
Catania has a famous beach called La Plaia, south of the port. Never been to that one so I can’t speak from experience.

Cefalu has a couple great beaches. The main one is broad, sandy and flat with good water depth. The town is easy to navigate and is small. Plenty of great restaurants, fococceria and cafes for granitas. The main square is great for apperitivo hours. Loved the place.

Palermo’s beaches at Mondello are supposed to be nice, but are the city beaches and you’ll have to bus or taxi there. Not ideal.

Siracusa has some “beaches” that are just rocky outcroppings. There’s access in Ortigia itself, but it wasn’t the best looking. Just very rocky and along the seawall. The main beaches (also rocks) are in mainland Siracusa. They build platforms and stairs there for access, but I think early June that still won’t be up.

If you’re traveling to Agrigento there’s options near there. Torre Salsa park has some great looking beaches. Haven’t been, but they have rep.

Thank you got this info! I’d actually like to stay in Cefalu but was worried it would be packed and the beaches wouldn’t be great. Thank you.

Our experience was that Cefalu was unwelcoming, the food was not great, and the beach wasn’t great either. We did not focus on beaches in Sicily but found some lovely ones near Agrigento.
