Sicily-Lodging near Palermo Airport, in March 2020

Traveling through Sicily in March, 2020 with our tour ending at the airport in Palermo. With about 24 hours free before flying out, are there hotels and public transportation connections near the airport? Interested in visiting Palermo city center but staying overnight near the airport. Please advise on logistics of the airport area and if possible recommend a hotel.

The airport is about 10 miles west of the city. It is on a strip of land next to the sea and seemed to have few businesses nearby. There are shuttle vans tor taxis that travel back and forth between the city center and airport. I took the van each way for 6 Euros I think; maybe 20 minutes. Pick up and drop-off for me was the train station which is a few blocks from the start of the hoteled area. Just get a cab for the morning ride out to the airport and stay downtown.

Cab fare from the city center to PMO is about €50. I would be a shame not to enjoy downtown.

We spent our last night in Cinisi. It is just minutes from the airport and a very nice small town. Palermo is a wonderful city with many sites to visit, but the traffic to the airport is very unpredictable depending on the time of day.

The airport bus to and from Palermo is very reasonable and frequent. What time is your flight out of Palermo? If not to early, staying in Palermo could make for a nice day there. Palermo has many interesting walks and restaurants and we felt safe there, day and night.

We have stayed overnight in Cinisi as well. We stayed at The Magaggiari Hotel and Resort. It was pretty pricey but we enjoyed walking in the evening in the small town and had our dinner there rather than at the hotel. (We paid 45E for lunch in the hotel and under ten euros for dinner in town.)

Getting from Palermo city center to the airport is super easy. There is regular train service, trip takes under an hour. Palermo Airport is pretty small, but well organized and manageable. The train station is a short walk from Quattro Canti in the old historic center. Stay the night in Palermo and enjoy, it’s an amazing city. There really didn’t seem to be much around the airport at all.

Thank you for the responses. They were helpful and gave me what I needed to know. We will stay in the city center near an airport shuttle stop.
