We are planning a 10 day trip to Sicily and have selected specific locations with attractions that we'd like to see. Locations include: Palermo, Trapani, Catania, Taorina, and possibly Agrigento. Can anyone suggestion lodging in these areas that is reasonable, clean, preferably with a breakfast and free parking that is not within an inner city? We will have a rental car. KS
?- I assume you'll get your rental car as you leave Palermo and drop it
off as you arrive in Catania? There are rental places right in downtown Palermo so you don't need to backtrack to the airport.
- If you eliminate Agrigento, you really don't need a car at all.
? - Agrigento, I assume, is primarily for the Greek temple complex so staying closer to the park makes sense?
? - 10 days means how many nights?
It's hard for me to recommend the places I have stayed at because I just don't know how they'd stack up to what you like.
I generally just search booking.com and check other google reviews. Booking will give you non-traditional lodging options but you can choose to filter those if you choose.
With that caveat, here's where I have stayed and liked for various reasons:
Palermo-Pagano Home Guesthouse (no breakfast but a great location and comfortable, clean largish rooms.
Palermo-Principe di Castelnuovo Historical Suites - (no breakfast but great location. Suite of rooms, lots of character)
Agrigento-B&B Villa San Marco - (Agriturismo-ish family compound overlooking the temples. Great breakfast, friendly family, access is via a low maintenance road so be a low clearance, compact car might not work)
Just at the edge of Trapani historic center, GIARDINI MON PLASIR has a pool and free parking. The owner is a font of good information of travel throughout the area.

Last time we were win Agrigento, two years ago, we chose to stay at a small B&B within about a 15-minute drive to the Temples. BORGO DELLE PIETRE. They include an excellent breakfast and have free parking. Lovely pool. Dinner on request. From there you can drive to the Temples;
I think it is much nicer than some of the popular hotels close to the site, and since you have a car it would work for you; it's also very close to the Scala die Turchi.

Another option is to stay at a farm B&B with animals, all the products of the farm---olive oils, pistachio products, milk from their donkeys, etc etc...it's more rustic than the B&B, above, but very nice with very welcoming hosts; easy drive to the Temples.
- In Agrigento we too stayed at B&B Villa San Marco. Thoroughly enjoyed it.
- In Taormina we stayed at Hotel Bel Soggiorno. It was an older hotel, but perfectly satisfactory and had a very good breakfast buffet. It does have free parking, but get there earlier in the day if possible since it can fill up.
- Rather than drive in Palermo we stayed at B&B Elvira al Duomo in Monreale and took the bus into the city.
- Likewise, rather than stay in Trapani, we stayed at the rather basic Villa San Giovanni in Erice. It had free parking directly in front. Its breakfast was nothing fancy and more continental.
This is great information. I will check out all of the suggestions. ks
