Will it be uncomfortable hot the end of June? How should one dress to be comfortable, but still able to enter churches? Are the Rick Steves hotels really unairconditioned?
We stayed in a Siena B&B our first trip to Siena but now we rent a great one bedroom apartment just steps to Il Campo for only 10 euros per night more! I highly recommend www.vrbo.com/320140. Wear cotton instead of synthetics, cover your shoulders and knees.
Sicily will be quite warm the end of June, probably @ 85 f. You can go into churches wearing a light cotton skirt (covering knees) and top with cap sleeves that cover your shoulders, or go sleeveless and just bring a light scarf and wrap around your shoulders at the admission. I can't think that Rick Steves would do a tour and use hotels with no A.C. You can google the hotels for their main websites and check "amenities." A.C. should show up. I stay in RS recommended hotels all the time and have yet to stay in one with no AC., but check anyway.
Karen, I have just returned from the RS Sicily tour. We were there May 20-29 and it was very warm, hot on some days. All the hotels had AC, as I recall, although we didn't use it. If you would like any specifics, PM me. The tour was fantastic, with a quite a speedy pace.
