Sicily Itinerary w/a 1 yo

Curious to get your thoughts on the right order to do 2 weeks in Sicily with a baby in early September. We fly into CTA and out of PMO--16 nights.

Right now I have:

5 nights Siracusa (Ragusa day trip)
3 nights Taormina
3 nights Cefalu
3 nights Trapani
2 nights Palermo

It would be nice to only do 4 locations but we have an early flight out of PMO so may be tough. Thanks for any feedback!

The easiest thing would be to drop Trapani and add a night to Cefalu and 2 nights to Palermo. You could train between all 4 towns, not worry about a car, and I feel you are short-changing your time in Palermo, which has a lot of sites to enjoy.

I think some people may suggest you drop Taormina, but we were in Sicily in April and liked Taormina. It can be very crowded, but it was charming while we were there, and we had excellent meals.

I would agree. Palermo has a lot to see and you are going to be moving at a slower pace with a little one. We rented a car but went places you are not. If you drop Palermo, you can skip the car (we paid $100 a day for a manual last year so can take lots of taxis for that sum.). We were briefly in Trapani and while it is a fine place, I would consolidate and spend more time in Palermo.

You can take 1 day off siracusa, drop trapani, and add those days to palermo. so much to see and do there. you can do day trips to trapani/erice, agrigento, segesta, etc. packing up and moving is something i try to minimize as much as possible.

How did the Iceland trip go? Baby a good traveler?

I think Taormina would be tough with a baby. I think you are way short for Palermo. There was nothing really spectacular about Trapani, but we found we actually liked it a lot. It was low key, flat and had restaurants we enjoyed, and Erice makes for a very nice day trip from Trapani. I'm inclined to suggest dropping Taormina and adding those days to Palermo.

Great advice all thank you! Just booked 4 nights to finish off the trip in Palermo. Now to think through your ideas for the middle part.

Good memory, Joe! Iceland was amazing. Great advice from all here. Was really appreciative of the all the tips that made our trip a lifelong memory. We are quite lucky what a good sleeper and traveler baby is :).
