Sicily in Oct.

My husband and I have 16 nights in Sicily. Is this enough time to see the island? Too much? Should we explore the east coast (Lecce, Matera, etc.) and give up a few days in Sicily? Haven't been to this area before. Only traveled Rome, Florence, Venice, Tuscany and Cinque Terre on our last trip. Thanks for any ideas and help!

There's a lot to see and do on Sicily. Two weeks sounds just about right. I enjoyed Cefalu; it is small enough for walking and big enough to have restaurants and a first-class cathedral. The beach is one of the best I've seen.

I agree with Swan, two weeks in Sicily are easy to fill. A few days in Palermo will put you within reach of Monreale, Segesta and Erice. Cefalu is a great place to unwind. In the east there is Taormina and the Aeolean islands. Southeast is Siracusa, and on the southern coast is Agrigento. There are beautiful small towns inland in the mountains as well. Since you've traveled in Italy before, you already know how things work; in Sicily things go just a bit slower.
