Thoughts on the travel experience in Sicily in mid-December? Weather? What to wear? Things to see and do? What is not as nice in mid-December compared to other times of year?
You can go to weatherspark.com or any similar website to see the average weather in December. Nobody can predict the weather more than a week or two in advance. Generally Sicily has mild temperatures in December but it can rain. Other than that the biggest drawback is probably the fact that it gets dark at 5pm, but if you don’t mind that, and you don’t plan to enjoy the beaches (it’s definitely not beach weather in December) it is as good as any time of the year.
We really enjoyed Sicily and my husband, thinking ahead, asked a restaurant owner in Siracusa what the weather was like in January. "A lot of rain" was the answer. I'm guessing that would apply to December as well.
Wikipedia has a monthly-average climate-summary chart in its listings for most cities. I don't like it for researching temperatures, because 1) averages hide the extremes that can be very unpleasant and 2) the averages are often based on a period that omits the recent years. I do use the charts to compare locations and especially for precipitation data.
I agree that I don't like seeing average temperatures. That's why I use WUnderground. You can see a calendar for whatever month you're looking to be there. If you want to go in December 2024, look for the calendar for that month. You can also view previous year's calendars to see what the historical weather has been the last few years.
