Sicily in March

Hello all --
We're traveling to Sicily in early March for my 50th birthday. Obviously there's a lot of information on the internet about Sicily but I've looked at the weather and it seems that it can be very rainy there in March. Has anyone ever been in March? It's definitely low season, so there's much less information about it.
Any tips or concerns that you'd have about traveling there that time of year?
Thanking you in advance!!

I wouldn't be overly concerned about the weather. We went to Palermo area in late March about three years ago and had beautiful sunny weather. Not a single rainy day. We only needed sweaters or light jackets in the evenings. Take a rain jacket or poncho with you just in case and check the forecast as you get closer to your travel dates.

Haven't been in March, but if you like to take photos, a little "untouristy" weather can give you great images. Also a good reason for indoor activities and getting to chat with people at a bar if it's raining.

Take clothes that you can layer, and you should have a great time.

I've visited Sicily in both February and March. Yes, some rain now and then but I was comfortable in my layered clothing. I wore a water repellent rain jacket and a cashmere sweater over my "regular" clothing on the coolest days. I would say 2 pairs of shoes are a must, in case one pair does manage to get wet. As others have said, layers are definitely the way to go. I did remember to bring along my umbrella, for which I was grateful a time or two! I loved being there that time of year. No crowds to speak of and certainly no complaints about the Spring-like weather and fresh produce all year 'round..... I live in Colorado :)

We went to Sicily on March 21, 2007, for my husband's 60th birthday and were there three-plus weeks, during which we had every type of weather from cold and rainy to hot and sunny. The cold, rainy times were certainly not as pleasant! When traveling to Europe, we always spray our shoes with waterproof spray. On the Sicily trip, because of splashing through many puddles, the waterproofing eventually wore off and we had to test our shaky Italian in shoe stores trying to find some spray to purchase (which we eventually did!). For the cold, I layered on most of the clothing I had in my backpack suitcase! (Fortunately, I had packed CuddleDuds for a bottom layer.) I had a hat, a jacket with a hood and a small umbrella which I never leave home without. (My husband has his own small umbrella.) Since that time, we have purchased inexpensive ponchos ($5?) that roll up very small and weigh almost nothing. I've only used mine on only one trip but was sure glad I had it.
