Sicily in April

Hello, guys! I'm going to Sicily on April 1, and I have a few questions.
I'm going to stay in Palermo for 3 days, and then I wanted to go straight to Catania, but then I thought about visiting Syracuse. And here is the question - what is better to do, after Palermo, go straight to Catania for the rest 4 days and just take a train to have a day trip to Syracuse, or spend 2 days in Syracuse and 2 days in Catania?

The next question is about the weather. Is there any chance to swim there during my stay ( April 2-8)? I know it won't be a season yet, but I'm from Eastern Europe, so I'm not that used to swimming in warm water.

And also, maybe someone has visited those places, so I'd appreciate any recommendations on where to eat and what to see, but something interesting, and not typical for tourists. I've read a lot about tourist attractions, but sometimes there are hidden gems that you come across accidentally.
I'd appreciate any recommendations:)

Ortygia, the medieval section of Siracusa, is more attractive and interesting than Catania, I think. There are also some really neat Baroque towns visitable from Siracusa by train and/or bus (not all on the same day): Ragusa, Noto, Modica and Scicli. Although Catania has some points of interest, your trip is very short and doesn't allow you to see all parts of the island, so I'd be inclined to spend 3 nights in Palermo, 3 nights in Ortygia and just the last night in Catania.

I am doubtful about swimming in April, but you can Google for water temperature info.
