Sicily Hotel Question

I am going with two friends to Sicily during Easter week (Apr 9-15). We are flying into Palermo: our hope is to stay there for a night, then drive to another city (maybe Cefalu) and make that our "base" for a couple of days, then to another place and make that our base for the remaining couple of days. So we'll have a car rental. Ideally we would be able to stay at hotels where it is possible to sleep three people separately in the same room (i.e. two single beds and a couch or trundle or something). But maybe that is an unrealistic convenience in Europe? Would most hotels provide a roll-away bed or cot? We are trying to keep costs down and so forth, so any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

In my experience.......it's gonna depend on the hotel BUT.....if you have three adults you will be charged for a triple no matter what. Even if you get a triple room with a double bed 95% of the time the double bed is simply two singles pushed together. Usually the only time you can get a free rollaway is if you have a baby/small child. I would ask when the reservations are made. Have you recently moved to Rome?

And keep in mind, hotel rooms tend to be small in Italy. Most hotel rooms I have been in Europe could not have fit a rollaway or a cot. I was actually in a Palermo hotel on a RS Sicily tour once where the room was large enough for an extra bed, but that was an exception.

Thanks, Ron and Laurie, for your replies. Ultimately, after looking around a bit, we decided the most straightforward thing would be just to rent a house/flat/apartment. So that is what we have done, and I think we will ultimately save a bit having taken that route, since the overall rate is a bit more economical and it also affords us the possibility of eating in for some meals. Thanks! Take care.
