With Sicily becoming more of a destination for Americans, do you think Rick might devote a whole guide to the region? I've viewed his dvd on Sicily and it was good, but I think a guide would be great.
DITTO!! Having traveled throughout most of Italy several times over with Rick Steves' guidebooks, I'm now taking on Sicily and my next destination (2012?) will be southern Italy--Apulia, Basilicata regions. Rick, are you listening? Next new book, please: "Southern Italy and Sicily". It will probably come too late for me, but considering my history with a dozen Italy trips under my belt, I'm pretty sure I'll be repeating Sicily and greatly looking forward to the "heel and the toe" of Italy's boot!
I don't know why Sicily is underserved in the RS guides. I just spent 3 weeks there and used the Lonely Planet guidebook on Italy.
Nobody at RS monitors these boards. If you're serious about suggesting this, may I suggest this site Feedback on Italy book where you can put that in as a suggestion? Happy travels.
camille, This question has come up on the HelpLine before. I don't have time today to search for the previous Thread, but it's here somewhere. As I (faintly) recall, there was a specific reason why ETBD hasn't produced a Guidebook covering Sicily yet. They only offer the Lonely Planet Sicily on the website, and provide a "Best of Sicily Sightseeing Guide" on the tours. If you're going to contact them with a suggestion, you could menntion that a Snapshot Sicily would be a good start. Cheers!
NOOOOOOOOOOO! We don't want Sicily (Aeolian Islands= awesome) , Puglia, Sardinia, etc. becoming another 5 Terre! Don't tell anyone about these wonderful places! Many years ago we stayed at an agi in Sicily that Rick had stayed at; and we still talk about it. One of the best places that we have stayed, in all of our travels. We have always used Lonely Planet when there is no "rick book". In many places, transportation connections can become a bit of a problem, so that can keep the "reccomendations to visit" on the low side.
