We are in the early stages of planning a trip to Sicily sometime in February or March. Our origin is Chicago. We are finding mostly two stops. Any one stop is very high priced. Any suggested on which airport in Sicily and how to find a reasonably priced one stop flight from Chicago. Thanks in advance.
Google flights is always a good research tool.
Try shifting travel days one way or the other and see if the prices change significantly. Catania is the bigger airport, but Palermo (Punta Raisa) works too. Open jaw would be an option.
Midweek flight on Turkish Airlines ORD to Catania, 1 stop in Istanbul, $648 round trip.
I see prices from $700 to $1200 r/t from ORD to CTA or PMO in March-April, depending on dates and airlines, with Turkish being cheapest. Another option, if you also plan to visit Rome, another option that people explore, is to fly to Rome (which for that period is about $500-600) then take a separate low cost airline within that timeframe. That option (with 2 separate tickets) requires a long layover in Rome in case of late arrival, and possibly an overnight stay in Rome, so you should do this only if a visit in Rome is in your plans.
Much obliged for taking the time to reply, all.......ken and karen novak
