Planning 2 days in Taormina area, then on to the Aeolian Islands for 6 nights, then off to Palermo area for 3 nights. Suggestions for what to see in those areas greatly appreciated. Also recommendations for flights from Rome to these areas. Thank you!!.
We loved Lipari. Stay at Residence Acanto, in room Malva 103 if you can. Take a day trip to Stromboli and hike up to the volcano.
Fly from Rome to Catania & from Palermo back to Rome. We used Ryan Air.
Here’s another vote for staying at Residence Acanto (room Malva 103) in Lipari. I took a day trip to the island of Salina and had a delicious lunch at a restaurant on the waterfront.
You may consider taking a night (or two) from the islands and spending more time in Palermo, in order to day trip to Cefalù and to Monreale to visit their magnificent
cathedrals.
Enjoy your time in beautiful Sicily!
We flew Alitalia from Catania (CTA)to Rome when we left. Inexpensive. We arrived by air into Palermo (PMO) on Volotea from Bari, even less expensive.
Taormina- Greek Theater, Villa Communale( a large Park with beautiful ocean views), take the gondola down to the beach below. You can take a tour to Mt. Etna. Get a good guide book for sights in Palermo in addition to the magnificent Monreale
In Taormina, after you've had your fill of the main tourist streets, find a stairway down to Villa Communale - the public gardens. Enjoy the relative peace and magnificent views. Walk back up to the top of town and catch the bus up to Castelmola. Visit the tiny, tiny castle ruins, and have a drink or a meal in one of the restaurants with beautiful views looking over the valley.
