Sicily driving Trapani to Agrigento and Enna

We will be in Sicily in October. After visiting Palermo we will be going to Trapani. I want to visit Agrigento and Villa Romana del Casale. The transportation links seem limited. Would renting a car for a few days to visit these spots be a good option? Not looking forward to driving in Italy but hope point to point might be manageable. Any suggestions or personal experience?

Renting a car is fun in Sicily. Getting out of Palermo a challenge, but other cities not too bad. We rented the car in town, but you could bus back to the airport to pick up the car. We went to basically the same sites with a few short stops between places we spent the night. The car was returned at Catania airport. Took a bus to Taormina as parking not good in that hilly town. With a car you can do drives in the interior of Sicily. Get a decent road map for the island. Ciao!

Transportation cutting through the interior of the island to places like Piazza Armerina and Enna is fairly infrequent. For that part of the itinerary, a car would allow for more convenient sightseeing. I can't comment on whether there would be any tricky elements to traveling that way, because I just sat on trains and buses as I bounced around Sicily. I did get to both Enna and Villa Romana del Casale, but I had to take a taxi to the villa from Piazza Armerina, because I was too lazy to get an early enough bus to P.A. to allow me to catch a bus going to (or near?) the villa.
