My wife & I are touring Sicily for 2 weeks in the fall. I've noticed that one can take a day trip to Malta with a tour included from Pozzalo. I assume day trips to various Aeolian islands are also available. Can someone recommend a favorite boat or ferry day trip from Sicily to a neighboring island? Thanks, Marty
Marty, we have done the high speed ferries to the Aeolians, but the best bet is to ferry over, (from Millazo, Messina),make one of them your home base and then do day trips to the others. We made Lipari our base (staying in Lipari town). It is a neat little town with a fantastic museum. The island has some fun beaches. Each island is totally different. One even has an active volcano; one has "theraputic" mud baths. We combined the Aeolians with visits to the NE and East coasts of Sicily. On another trip on the NW coast we did a day trip to one of the Egadi Islands (Favingnana), and explored the old Tuna factories and small towns. Pick up a Lonely Planet guidebook, do some reading, and see what really interests you.
Steve, Great stuff - thanks very much. Marty
