Sicily

I have looked at the Globus Sicily 7 day tour and would like to know if anyone has taken that tour. I live on the east coast and would be leaving from Dulles. If you have taken this tour, what were the positive aspects of the trip and what were the difficulties? I am a senior citizen in my late 70s.

I have been to Sicily but traveled there independently in 2015. The Globus tour is essentially a 5-day tour; it begins at 6 PM on Day 1 and ends after breakfast on Day 7--a common way of advertising how long a tour is. Sicily is a large island deserving a great deal more time than that. I always recommend at least 2 weeks for folks who will have a rental car for part of the time; without a car, more time is called for.

I see that Globus is offering substantial discounts right now, so I can understand the temptation, but Sicily isn't particularly easy to get to, and I do not recommend going for such a short time. Before committing to this tour, I urge you to investigate the flight costs and travel times.

Except for hotels in Taormina, Sicily is a relatively inexpensive place to visit, and most of the highlights can be reached conveniently (if not terribly quickly) by public transportation. Folks who've driven there (I have not) say driving isn't a problem outside the major cities. Quite a few folks here have worked out itineraries that used a combination of trains, buses and rental car.
