Has anyone ever stayed in Catania? We are using Catania as a base for two and a half days, one day to look up family in the middle of the island and one day for Taormina. Any suggestions would be helpful.

We never stayed in Catania ( I was worried about the crime after reading the "Let's Go" guide book, but stayed in a great Agritourisimo just outside of Syracuse (Il Limoneto), and at a great "Rick Steves " recomended hotel in Taormina; "Hotel Continental". The easy freeway access for Catania, Syracuse, and Taormina make any of these a good base.
