Has any one rented a car from Sicily by Car? We have heard bad reports dated 2 years ago. Wondering if anyone has used them recently and if they have had any problems. Thanks,
Richard
I'll add Hertz to Roberto's list of bad guys. Anyone who's interested can read the details on the Graffiti Wall. Btw Roberto, cancelling a cc will not work as a means for resolving an unjust charge. Any charges incurred before the cancellation continue to be owed.
We got our rental car from Maggiore in Catania, Sicily. I read somewhere that it is the largest such company in Italy.
In April we were in Sicily 28 days. We rented a car for 24 days and drove around the island. We used economycarrentals.com, as we have several times in other countries. They are a wholesaler so you don't know the name of the actual car rental company until you get your confirmation. In Sicily we got Budget Car through economycarrentals and had no problems. We picked up and turned in the car at Palermo airport and had no problems with the car during the trip.
Sicily by Car still owes me 8 Euro for a headlamp bulb I replaced in their rental car in Gela (Sicily) 8 years ago. I'm afraid I'll have to write that off as a bad debt. But whichever company I rent from in Italy, they always try to charge me for some extra junk that doesn't belong there. Last year was AVIS. They charged me for about 35 euro for fuel charge (I returned it full). I didn't realize it until later when I was back in the US, so I didn't bother to dispute. This year it was EUROPCAR. They also charged me an additional 44 euro for 22 liters of fuel (also returned full). They just sent me the invoice. Still trying to get it reversed with the help of AutoEurope, through which I got the rental. Europcar customer service email server rejects all emails. I'm not exactly sure why this is happening to me every time I rent a car in Italy. If it's not one thing is another. If I don't get this resolved, next time I will simply give the rental car company a credit card which I will cancel the day after I return the rental.
