Sicily in September- Clothing Question

Hello! I'm traveling to Sicily in September. I was not sure what clothing I should pack (shorts, pants, sneakers, sandals, dresses, etc.) knowing I will be walking a lot. Anyone have recommendations for clothing options for women (how much of certain clothing to pack and what to avoid) through learned experience? It's greatly appreciated and thank you!

I’m going then too and assuming warm. I’m following my personalized version of the Rick Steves suggested packing list. If you are on one if his tours remember you need to be able to carry luggage up stairs if necessary.

I was there in September a few years back. I took a couple skirts with mix and match tops, 2 pair of crop pants and 1 light weight pair of slacks. I wore my athletic shoes for walking and took sandals for in the evening. I remember this was one trip I took my swimsuit and actually wore twice.

Wear what you would wear to visit Washington, DC in September, which has virtually the exact same weather as Sicily in September (maybe a slightly less chance of rain in Sicily).

I was in Sicily in September 2020. It was very warm- in fact, in Palermo it got up to about 40C (about 100F). Normally heat doesn't really bother me but it was so warm I needed a rest in the afternoon! It was definitely good weather for swimming. I think you will be fine with normal summer clothes and shoes you can walk long distances in.

I agree! I've been in Sicily for the month of September last year, and a few Septembers before that (I like to travel during that month). I think you'll be fine with what you'd wear at home. At night, to restaurants, I wear either black jeans or white jeans, with a nice linen or cotton blouse, or a solid-colored t-shirt. (You can dress up with a few pieces of costume jewelry).

I don't wear shorts in Italy; at home I only wear those if I'm at a beach resort.
One of two light dresses, maybe linen or Indian cotton, might be good. Extra points if the fabric is the kind where wrinkles look ok, like linen or some gauzy cottons.

Maybe two pair ankle length or Capri pants. (I get a ton of use out of a pair of Lululemon black capris; I wear them with a nice shirt to restaurants, or for sightseeing, etc.

Maybe three solid-color or neutral color t-shirts.
For feet, one pair of sneakers if you like to wear those for walking, but you can also go to nice restaurants in stylish sneakers, like many Italian women. And a pair of sandals. I also wear flip flops for pool or beach, and if I have to run downstairs in hotel and don't want to get fully dressed, or to breakfast in hotel. And black clogs (see below) to wear on plane and around, instead of slippers...

Hat that is designed to be crushed and still looks good...I got a nice one at Costco.
The later in the month you get, the chances of rain are more possible. So I take a nice short, white rain jacket that I also bought at Costco for about $12; it looks good, really!

One pair pajamas. Bathing suits if pool or beach is in the plan. I find out before I pack if the hotel offers robes for guests and if they do, I wear those robes to the pool or to the beach if the beach is at the hotel. I see many guests wearing hotel robes to breakfast in hotel.

I guess it's really personal...more or less that's what works for me but I ALWAYS bring too much...like 6 t-shirts instead of four. Also, on the plane,, I usually wear nice jeans and a long-sleeved blouse or shirt, and clogs that I can slip on and off. I wear those a lot for walking around, too.

Things you can probably leave at home are soaps, shampoo and conditioners, body wash....but if you are not sure, you can contact your hotels and ask if those are provided. But bring sun lotion.

Cargo shorts are always in style.
Polo shirts.
What I wore in November in Sicilia.
Of course, I always wear the same outfit every day.

Thank you all for the very detailed responses! These were very helpful! I appreciate you all!
I'm trying to figure out good walking sneakers that are still stylish. I'm going to be in Sicily for around 10 days so just starting to plan my clothing options. :)
