We will be staying in Ortigia for 5 nights, checking in on Good Friday. Should we expect restaurants and shops to be closed during this time because of the holy days?

I can't answer about restaurants and shops, but we were in Sicily one Easter and were surprised to find that Easter Monday was also a holiday and public transportation wasn't running. We had to spend an extra night in the town where we were staying and leave on Tuesday.
