Sicily and Sardinia

Sicily needs all the time you have or more. Don't cut it short. Sardinia may be fabulous, but save it for another trip. You can have a grand time in Sicily with 12 days and a car. I had 18 days and no car, which wasn't really enough. There's lots of good stuff inland; don't just hit the coastal sights.

I agree with the prior poster - put all your eggs in the Sicily basket. Seven days is not enough, and you'll have a much less rushed trip if you just stick to Sicily for the entire 12 days.

Nor are seven days enough. We've had five weeks in Sicily over two trips and it still isn't enough!

With 12 days in Sicily, you'll still be hard put to choose what to see and what to skip.

The days devoted to each are too few, considering the size of the islands and the distances (and the curvy roads, especially in Sardinia). You would be severely limit the number of things you can see and do. You'd be better off devoting your vacation to one only.

Sicily has more to offer in terms of historical and art sites. Sardinia has more to offer in terms of pure marine beauty and gorgeous beaches.

If you are a beach fiend, a wind surfer or scuba diver, Sardinia is the place for you. If you are a history or archeology buff, then Sicily is the place to go.

To second Roberto's and others' advice, and Sicilia has some good beaches, too.

The verdict has been reached.

We will spend a minimum of 12 nights in Sicily only.
