Hello Forum friends, I'm struggling with best approach to seeing Villa Romana and Valley of the Temples given crowds and eye-watering lodging prices in late September so seeking advice.
We will be traveling east to west and have 3 days to get from Siracusa to Palermo. The current plan:
Day 1 - rent a car in Siracusa and head directly to Villa Romana de Caselle. Realistically we won't arrive until midday given car rental pickup and the drive time, so will deal with crowds there. Press on after seeing Villa Romana to near Agrigento so as to get an early start Day 2 at the Valley of the Temples and sstay at the same lodging for two nights before Day 3 continuing to Palermo.
I made a reservation at Villa La Lumia (www.villalalumia.com) but it is 850 euros for two nights and yes, it is inside the archeological park but it still feels like a LOT. I looked at other options here and in the RS book but they are either booked or too far away.
I started thinking - perhaps there is a town between Villa Romana and Agrigento that would be worth staying for the night of Day 1 and then another town past Agrigento to stay the night of Day 2.
Is that even worth considering? Or should I just suck it up and pay the price for the inside the archeological park?
Any thoughts are appreciated!
