We are going to Sicily for 3 days (that is all the time we have). Can anyone suggest 3 day itinerary. Is it best to stay in Palermo? We like history and beaches
Sicily has lots to offer, from religious sites, to medieval towns, to an active volcano, to spectacular ancient archaeological sites, etc. Not to mention the food, beautiful views, etc. Knowing a bit more about what types of things you are interested to see would help. I would not say that it is better to stay one place or another without knowing more about what kinds of things you hope to see.
3 days is not much time, especially if two of those days include travel, so we need some more info. Where are you coming from? How are planning to travel there? What time of year? Palermo and Catainia are the main entry points for flights, and with only three days, it would be wise to stay near one oif them. We picked up a Lonely Planet guidebook, did some reading, and then put together our plans. On one of our trips we stayed in Taormina( not too far from Catainia) spent some time at the local beaches, and did day trips from there. Wnen we stayed in the NE we had a car, and it was much easier to stay near Palermo (lots to see near there!) , and do day trips to the neat hill town of Erice, and go swimming at the awesome beaches at San Vito de Capo, and visit some of the Greek ruins.
We are coming via Malta taking the Catamaran.
September is when we will be going
