Sicily

The obvious places would be Siracusa/Ortygia , Ragusa and/or Noto and Caltagirone .
Although it's not on the coast, and will be about 2 hours from Taormina, one of my favourite places would be the Villa Romana del Casale near Piazza Armerina. They are the best mosaics I've ever seen.

Ortygia is absolutely delightful with sea views, wonderful ambiance, lots of restaurants and a farmers market and you can cross the bridge to visit the ruins and museum in Siracusa

Ortygia is an amazing place to visit. I was there last year for a few days - already booked a full week for the end of June this year, an apartment right on the Piazza Duomo. Hey, we'll be there the same week - you'll recognize me: I'm the tourist that looks like he wants to move in!

I was just in Catania in December- if your a fan of The Godfather movies- the town of Savoca is a must see- its where they did the filming of Michaels wedding to Appolonia among other scenes- its close to Taormina- Ortigia-Siracusa is just beautiful and easy to get to from Catania- we travelled by bus and the highways were fine- Noto is about a half hour or so from Siracusa and a beautiful little town- they all have amazing Cathedrals and scenery.
