We are flying ITA/Alitalia airlines San Francisco to Rome to Catania changing planes in Rome with 1 hour and 5 minutes to change planes. The airline is telling me it won’t be a problem…has anyone else done this? We are US citizens so don’t we have to go thru customs? Thanks
There are a lot of factors involved, but I wouldn’t want to make a connection with that little time. If you leave late, are held in the air prior to landing, passengers are slow to get off the plane, you need to change terminals in Rome, whether both flights on the same ticket, etc., will all affect whether you make your connection.
The biggest unknown is how long it will take to get through immigration in Rome since that’s where you will enter the Schengen area.
I agree ! :(
Hello,
I have always stayed in Rome overnight and travelled to Sicily the next day. You do have to go thru Immigration passport control (customs is for declaring items you have purchased) ...but if the Airline is telling you it's possible then I'm sure they will rebook you if you don't make the connection. They sell the flight for a reason so I think you will be okay. Call the airline and ask what happens if you dot make the connection.
I did it two years ago.
Flew from Canada to Rome, then made my flight to Palermo in time with a one hour five minute connection.
I was lucky that my first flight arrived on time, and both were on one ticket.
I did walk very fast through the airport with no stopping.
If you miss the second one due to the fault of the airline, you’ll be put on the next available flight.
Thanks everyone ! There are 3 flights after if I miss this one .. just frustrating and nerve wracking !
