Hello, what would be the best transportation to get to have from the Palermo airport? We will be renting a car on day 4 to travel the coast but need transportation when we arrive in Palermo to our hotel in city center.
Bus or taxi.
Or train. To save the planet.
The planet...and your wallet, compared to a taxi. The train stops at various stations along the edge of the city center: with a bit of luck, your hotel is within walking distance from one of them (probably Lolli, Orleans or Centrale).
A taxi, if you want to arrive at your hotel with eyes wide open, a vocabulary of Sicilian curses, and an urgent need to pee.
I took the train and regretted not taking the bus - would have been faster. YMMV
You can get a taxi at the train station. I believe that's where the bus stops as well. Palermo isn't hilly, so if your hotel is close, it should be an easy walk, though crossing streets can be a bit of a challenge.
We took the bus. It was easy and a short walk to the hotel.
The bus is actually an airport shuttle, with a luggage hold underneath. Fast, easy and comfortable. There's a kiosk in the airport to buy tickets.
